Nepalese Carpet
Nepalese Carpets depict Nepalese and Tibetan Themes of beautiful work of art. There is a great variety in design, colour, size, and knots. They are manufactured totally by able hands in traditional Tibetan method adopting a very wide range of designs and knot densities to satisfy the tastes for both modern and traditional decors.
Processes followed on Carpet production:
Wool washing: Wool taken from ships is washed to remove dirt and other unwanted materials from the wool. The wool is then dried in sunlight for two to three days.
Carding: Then cleaning and carding is done. It is done either by hand or machine.
Spinning: Wool spinning is done by hand charkha.
Dyeing : Dyeing is carried out using synthetic dyestuffs. The yarn is dried in the sunlight.
Weaving : Carpet weaving is performed by hand using graphs & sketches. The carpet weaving is a creative task, which is performed by three or four laborers according to the size of carpet. While weaving they use yarn balls, scissors, iron-rod, levers, comb beater, etc.
Trimming: The sharp design & pattern is carved with scissors from the woven carpet. The level of the pile is also made smooth as per the design.
Washing & drying: Carpet is washed with fresh water using household chemicals. Then it is direct out in the sun light for 4- 5 days.
Stretching : The carpet is stretched to bring into the original loom- stage size. Stretching provides the good appearance of carpet.
Final Trimming : The carpet is given a final trimming of the unusual yarn. In this case any error in the design & Pattern is trimmed and given the final touch.
