The production of Nepalese jewellery has been an ancient tradition based predominantly on caste and culture. Silver and other metal jewelries are manufactured by highly skilled craftsmen from Shakya and Sunar family, all by hand. These groups are able to adapt various designs and can now create beautiful works of art in jewelry forms to meet the western market trends.  Keeping the work completely hand-made still today by letting the workers do the new designs they are now able to adapt their ancient skills to modern designs. There is no use of any modern equipment yet that science and technology created in the 21st century.

Jewelry in Nepal is worn for decorative, talismanic, and investment purposes. Lavish pieces may be donned to celebrate marriage or promote fertility, while amulets are worn to ward off baleful influences.  Silver jewelry is abundant and its many forms are expressed in unusual sizes and is freely used, as are beads of glass, coral, turquoise, amber, and agate. Stones native to Nepal are Sapphire, Aquamarine, Amethyst, Ruby, Garnet and Tourmaline, among others. Price is calculated by the cost of silver or other metal used and cost of blended stones. Hence cost of similar designs may also vary due to the varied cost of blended stone.
